Born and raised in Zurich, Julia Winkler graduated with distinction from Berlin’s International University of Art for Fashion in 2012. Her approach to design is characterized by a strong sense for abstraction paired with a profilic preference for contrasting themes resulting in a solemnly poetic, yet vivid and slightly quirky elegance. Her graduation collection won the „Annabelle Award“ and the „Prix du Jury“ in 2012 and she subsequently worked at Barbara Bui in Paris. Julia is currently working and living in Berlin.
Studio Winkler’s current collection is an exploration of spatial abstractions applied to the female form. Graphic Garçonne cuts with subtly odd interventions paired with a feverish colour palette lend a slight eccentricity to otherwise unadorned looks. Soft wool, silk fabrics, nappa leather and knitwear are contrasted by pieces of shiny viscose fibres.
Inspired by the paintings of Mark Bradley-Shoup, Winkler’s 2018 collection takes his theme of expansion and recession further by means of explorations in volume, shape and texture.
For the first time since founding her label, Julia Winkler has chosen to present a non-seasonal collection aiming to liberate herself and her customers from short-sighted whims and instead hold the very essence of clothing in high esteem. Single pieces such as accessories and items refering to specific seasons will be added along the year.
